Ocean trash - Are we doing something wrong to this planet?

Hi guys, with the headline "Are we doing something wrong", Roddy published a very interesting and sad link. With the words "Here's a page worth looking at to just remind ourselves of the impact we have on the ocean as boat-anglers : pass the link on, it's a sobering one." he published this link at the sportfishermen-forum: http://www.chrisjordan.com/current_set2.php?id=11

And I think it should remember everybody of us NOT to throw trash in our waters!

Unfortunately there are a lot of examples http://www.howstuffworks.com/great-pacific-garbage-patch.htm

Very interesting informations you will find in WIKIPEDIA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch

Time to change our bad habits!

Hi Uwe,

It seems there's one a bit closer as well. I was reading about the pacific patch a few months ago and came across the north atlantic one.

Well -

the numbers of answers - posts in this thraed give a rough imaginaion of how many care about it ................... ;( Its not a priority topic ........

But I got good news for the ones who care ...... not about trash...- but about the merciless preying of the Oceans......

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has a ship called the "Oceanic Viking " - its ARMED :!: ( Yes with Guns :D )
And its using them ...... It defends Australian Sea territorys against foreign and illegal fishing -no playing around !
They guide the arrested ships to harbours not giving them back to the owners and i think they sink em as wrecks for Scuba diving attraction a lil of shore..... They let the crews leave the ship before -of cause ..... ( damn .. :roflmao: ) How cool is Australia - guys
Jese....... awesome Country - finally one that quit talking and started acting ! Two  up Downunder ! Well done!

The rest of the world still sits and waits !!! :verrueckt:

Have a good one......... Guys

Maldives coast guard pretty regularly and with the help of fisherman gets illegal fisherman in our waters. What we do is, they are fined for illegally entering our country, and have their vessels and everything confiscated, fined and then deported. The fine depends on how much fish they have pilfered as well as the potential to steal, a function of the boat size usually. The boats are then sold in an auction to the local market.

About the rubbish problem, we hope something gets done, and as people get more and more aware of the damage we're doing there will be a change. the important thing is I hope it's not too late before we all realize that.
