Australia: New wahoo record

David and Sandy from New South Wales (Australia) caught with a 16 pound tippet a 77 pound wahoo !!!

This wahoo is the largest one ever caught on fly.

The fight took three hours and 20 minutes. This great fish burned off all but 30 feet of a 400 yards.

To David I only can say "Congratulations" !!!

Wahoo on fly

Hi Uwe
That was a superb achievement. I think you you've probably made a mistake in typing in the web address. It is in fact - http://www.oceanblue.com.vu/index.cfm. Possibly you forgot the suffix '.VU' that denotes Vanuatu where the fish was caught?

You may not be aware that a German angler, Hermann Fehringer, who was a member of our Club - Sportfishing Club of the British Isles - at the time, still holds the 12lb class tippet record with a fish of 57lbs - 25.85kgs - caught off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in 1995.

To catch them successfully on a fly you chum them to a drifting boat and then, with a feeding shoal, 'dead drift' a fly, normally comprised of a red & white dressing containing some 'lureflash' material. The takes, unlike when you are trolling, are I understand quite delicate.
