Enjoy this picture of huge (by the way How huge???) blue marlin caught by two sal capoverdian guys.

.....by the way....if you check the picture...you can see......yes yes it is a spear gun.

Marlin caught 2.5 miles from shoreline, 60 meters depht, at the end of may with an arbalete spear gun.
they took around 1 and half hour to get the fish alongside their small panga.
This is not the first marlin for these guys but the biggest so far.
They were wahoo underwater fishing as they usually do every day.
....well the whole story is fascinating....
If interested I will tell you sooner or later....

Hi David,
wow! What a fish! With spear? Fascinating! Yes, I´m very interested in the whole story and I´m looking forward.
Let me estimate: Ok, I´m really not experienced in estimating Marlin, but I think the fish has about 520lb.

?( :S

Hi guys,

wolfman told us in his posting, that Capt. Bracey has a very big marlin (grander size) on his boat. At the moment, they drive back to the weight station. More, a little bit later.

hello everybody
after weighting the fish 854 lbs , but the fish lost about 10 kg blood and during the run back towed outside the boat scratcht a bit on the stern.
So not a Grander but a very good fish. The french boat also lost a very big one on the leader.
I will try to post some pic´s tomorrow.

Ciao Rudolfo :)

No chance to get my tape and my camera back I am afraid , even with the friendly help of Berno. I know he tried everthing possible. Thanks Berno .

I have more than 10 hours of videotapes to choose.... We want to celebrate 100 marlin in three years on Bebiche ...long and boring work.... I think we will have the video ready not before Christmas time.....and this is not a joke...I am a bit lazy.

So lazy tha I would like to tell you the whole stoy of the Spearfish :D Marlin next year sitting on Club Nautico drinking a couple of beers. This is a deal .

Anyway If you are going to fish with Giorgio Assolari in Sal next year before coming to Mindelo you will know the whole story directly by him. Just be aware of your muscles Vj with Giorgio is a tough work...BIG amberjacks can be restless fish....

From my journey to Australia I ´ve made 8 tapes and I´m still working....and working....and working.....

Meet you next year, same time at Club Nautico.

hi everybody,

fishing is somewhat more slow the past days compared to the number of fish were caught the last weeks, but some big ones came in; simons 850 pounder, bebiche's 900 pounder and bonzes 750 pounder yesterday. the french lost a biggy on the leader and zak broke the leader on a what he called 900 pounder.......no worries, some average size fish were caught too. bonze caught a 130 lbs YF-thuna and while whatching the german soccer team winning against portugal, sorry zak ;-), we all enjoyed sashimi in the club, made friendlywise by christine and wolfgang.

sorry david, no news so far, just found out that due to the police is enforcing here the crimes, they sell their stuff late and store it for a while before offering it. but everybody who buys stolen things knows that we want the camera back for whatever price, so we still can hope.

tight lines,

berno

200 Blues this year for Amelia ALREADY

This is a note I've just picked up from the MarlinNut.com forum posted by Andy Fanter, our Club's (Sportfishing Club of the British Isles) sole American member. Andy lives in Arizona.

Quoted

As of yesterday Zak Conde on Amelia released number 200 for this season. The season record for Cape Verdes is 241 by Peter Dobler(now retired) on Bebiche. I will watch his numbers and hopes he gets the record this month. If not I will go over in late August and first week of September and hopefully put him over the top!!

Congratulations Marty and Chi---that is a lot to wire!!

Andy's refered to Peter's Cape Verdean record. I suspect as well it's likely also to be a world record. I really can think of any more prolific fisheries with such a long season.

I believe that Dave Noling had two years with 290+ blues, fishing Venezeula and St. Thomas. I think it was in the early to mid '90's with 298 being the top year.

Hi terr,
first "welcome in the big game board". After your posting I googled a little bit about Dave Noling and it´s impressive what this captain caught and also catch. You can find his homepage under "http://www.doubletroublesportfishing.com/". But, an interesting article is on marlinmag.com where they write about Dave Noling: "While fishing with Capt. Dave Noling on the Courtesan one fall day, we came across one of these amazing feeding frenzies and watched as 20 electric-blue white marlin surfed down a wave and into the spread, attacking the teasers and baits two and three at a time. Later that same day, a whale glided through the spread, passed under the transom and jumped about 30 feet away on the other side of the boat. Oh, and an 800-pound mako ate the left bridge teaser"
Yes, there are good destinations (and very good captains) on other spots of the world too. But I think, Cape Verde is really one of the best these days.
Best wishes,
Uwe
