Blue Shark

This female blue shark was caught yesterday by Brian Oates from the Isle of Man (on the left)
He was fishing on my boat "Vitamin Sea" from albufeira, Portugal.
We were fishing on the drift seven miles off the coast of Albufeira
The shark was over two metres long and weighed approx 100lbs.
The shark was returned unharmed after taking the pics.

Dear Uve, thanks for your welcome to this board.
We were fishing on the drift using Sardines for chum and for the hook baits.
Sardines seem to work best hre in Portugal, even though there are millions of Mackerel swimming about the Sardine is the king.

That sounds very interesting. I hadn´t known, that Big Game Fishing in Portugal is so good.

I think, many of our User don´t know about this.
Thank you for your answers, Dave.
Can I ask you one more ?(

What is the best time for Bluefin?

This is usually later in the summer, and the Tuna in general go right through to the end of the year.
I must say that the Bluefin are not very common, i think that far to many have been killed throughout the world.

Hi Dave welcome to the forum, I work out of New Zealand doing a similar job to you. I have to agree with you I feel many of the Tuna species have been overfished especially by seiners and surface long liners, nice shark you have there and good to see it went back as the shark species are also under threat from the above mentioned. Portugal is one place I woould like to visit some day
All the best with your fishing
Cheers Lionel
