Miami & Bahmas Trip

HI!

Just a short forcast at the complete report of my trip to West Palm Beach and Bahamas South Andros:

Nice Bonitos on the 8, 3 Codia on the 12 (1 landed) and a lot of sharks out there at Miami West Palm Beach and Jupiter.

At South Andros beautiful and nice Bonefish. Very spooky but what a flyfishing adventure! Caught many bonefish and hocked one lemon shark and a big tarpon. Super place to go at the right lodge!

Complete Report follows up.

Greetings.

RE: Miami & Bahmas Trip

congrat's Chris,
nice job.
good luck for the next ones, i will be offshore tomorrow morning til thursday morning for white marlin on light tackle, no flyfishing this time, maybe we get lucky for some blue marlin, too, we receive the first ones in the spray since 2 weeks, but it's early for their season still.
have fun
Mike

Tremendous! Well done Chris.

And I can still vividly remember the footage of those Spinner Sharks (linked to your home page) - their aggression and that near 60 second run into the beach. Um....perhaps that's why your stats ended up as '12 for 1'? But still better than me, I've yet to land one!

But as Mike said in an earlier post - that's Sportfishing! There wouldn't be the buzz if you landed everything. It's all about the challenge and the fight, win or lose. In fact experienced Tarpon anglers will often just fish for strikes and those initial explosive jumps and then pop the fish off. And occasionally, especially with Jacks, I've been known to take the trebles off the popper - the buzz coming from that explosive surface strikes.

Any rate enough of my whitterings. I'm sure 'all will be revealed' with your full report but I notice you've got a nice Little Tunny and (is it?) a juvenile Yellowfin. Did you get those chuming, or chasing the schools of fish when they were feeding on bait?

that's Sportfishing!

HI!

So, let´s go on with first details (sorry, that i can´t write a complete report - time runs up and up).

Due to the Video of the Spinner Sharks, i fished at West Palm Beach with Capt. Scott Hamilton. Spinner Sharks were out yet, cause the Saison is Jan-Apr. This is the time for Florida False Albacore (Bonitos). We went out with Scotts Cat Boat, which is well prepared for Flyfishing. I took my Winston XTR 8 and Winston XTR 12 with me. Scott feeded with Bait to rais up the fish. It was great to fish with the Fly for all species we raised up. Speed and Run after hook up is so great at the fly rod! In the two days of fishing i landed about 25 to 30 Bonitos in size of 5 to 8 pound. The biggest was 12 pound and took all of my 250 yards Backing, so we had to follow him with the boat. I lost 2 fish down by Sharks and one at the surface by a Shark - Great watching the Attack by the bull Shark. When a boat stops, the sharks come and circle round the boat at about 50 feet deep. And you cast on the boat front at the edge to the sharks - a real adventure! I also landed 1 Codia or Cobia at about 20 to 25 pound. Hard fighting head shaking fish but very easy to bring on the fly. Hocking up the fish is the first challange and then second to land him. At the second day i landed a really nice Rainbow Runner as well as many Bonitos and false hook ups..
All over i´m very impressed of the bluewater Fishing round West Palm Beach and found in Scott a super Guide for Flyfishing at an extreme level.

Stories about Bahamas and it´s Bonefish, Lemon Sharks and Tarpons follow up.

Greetings.

Bass Pro and IGFA HQ

Hi Chris
And I see you managed to visit the IGFA Headquarters at Dania Beach, and the Bass Pro store. Not the best of fly stores, but what a store! It's huge! And the saltwater tank and the artificial mountain - tremendous.

Of course the restaurant, the Islamorada Fish Factory links to their store on the 'Keys. That's similarly a wonderful place to visit located as it is with its decking over the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. At lunchtime there'll usually be a couple of flats skiffs that come in to moor and have a few beers.
